The Washington BDR is a 575-mile backcountry motorcycle route that takes adventure and dual-sport riders on an unforgettable journey through the Cascade Mountains—from Stevenson, WA on the Columbia River all the way to the Canadian border at Night Hawk.
This route offers an incredible mix of dense forest riding, volcanic vistas, and open pine-covered terrain, showcasing the dramatic geographic diversity of Washington State. In the southern section, riders are treated to towering views of iconic volcanic peaks from deep within the forest. Further north, the scenery opens into arid central highlands, with the route crescendoing into the alpine landscapes north of Lake Chelan.
Each day gets better as you progress north, with winding dirt roads, high mountain passes, and a mix of technical sections and easier alternatives for those who want to bypass rough terrain. Whether you’re camping under the stars or mixing in a few hotel nights, the WABDR accommodates a variety of riding styles and travel preferences.
Most riders complete the route in 5 to 6 days, depending on pace and stops.
Ideal Riding Season: June through September. Early and late in the season, snowpack in higher elevations can block access to key mountain passes.
The WABDR is a must-ride for any ADV motorcyclist looking to experience the wild beauty of the Pacific Northwest’s backcountry.
